The Hyuga clan and their revered Byakugan are known for their incredible abilities. Their strengths have helped bolster the hidden leaf, and they’ve always been seen as an asset and an undeniable advantage to the clan. In times of war, it was not uncommon that assassins and covert operation ninjas from other villages would try to kidnap young Hyuga children in order to gain the abilities and powers that comes with having one as part of their village, hence the need for the guardian side branch.
This takes us back 10 years, on a calm winter’s night. A 5 year old Hikarimei Hyuga sat on the roof of the main branch’s estate. The young girl, held a gentle smile as she watched the snowflakes sway and float around in the darkness, flickering and shimmering occasionally in the moonlight. The girl shivered, huddling her legs closer to her chest as she stared with wide shimmering silver eyes at the mysterious sight before her. Hikarimei smiled to herself and shut her eyes, recalling what her father once said to her.
“Do you understand the meaning of your name? Hikarimei? It means radiant eyes.”
She giggled softly, happy to be given such a name. Even amongst the Hyuga clan, the girl’s eyes were incredibly intense. They were so concentrated; the white/silver colour seemed almost radiant. Such an intensity in a baby’s eyes was not seen often. Hikarimei had yet another unusual quality, it was not common for the descendants of the clan to be born with silver hair. Some suggested that the white trait of her eyes had affected the rest of her body, turning her hair into a silvery shade and her skin into a moonlit white. It goes without saying that when the girl was born, there was much hype and excitement surrounding her potential.
As soon as she was old enough, her training in Byakugan and the gentle fist began. Hikarimei was not only a fast learner, she surpassed any expectation set on her. The girl’s abilities seemed almost amplified. She was a quick learner, and what she lacked in strength she made up for with impeccable perception. The techniques, the skill, the steps to achieving different techniques were explained to her thoroughly, engraved in her memory so she’d never forget it. And she never did.
Hikarimei’s skill lived up to the hype, at age 8 she graduated from the leaf academy and was an official genin. She’d been assigned to her group and their first mission was on the outskirts of the leaf territory to investigate strange rumours. Hikarimei was excited. She had always heard rumours, she’d always heard stories, but to know that soon she’ll be able to tell her own story made her heart thump in excitement. Little did she know that this mission would be her last as Hikarimei, radiant eye of the Hyuga clan.
It had all happened so fast. The ninja’s from the cloud village were using something she had never encountered before, barrier jutsu. Even with her eyes, she could not see them. The first to go was her team leader, her team mates were picked off one by one as they tried to flee in desperate terror after having lost their sensei. Hikarimei was the only one rational enough to try and deceive the ninja; using her Byakugan she was able to track them all. She saw her teammates fall one by one, she made her way in the opposite direction, using their death as a distraction.
Regardless, her attempts were doomed to failure. This wasn't a random encounter, these ninja had it all planned, there goal, the reason this mission was assigned was for the sole purpose of capturing the Hyuga girl. The cloud had many spies, they knew of her. They knew that soon, she’d be on her first mission and they waited. They watched. When she was finally ready, they set their plans into motion. They had no guarantee that it would be her team to be assigned to them, but it did not matter. They were to keep trying until they caught her. At such a young age, her mind was susceptible to their jutsu. They could change her, mold her and give her the memories they desired. It is precisely why her eyes did not work. Precisely why all the ninja were so proficient with barrier techniques, they rendered her most powerful ability near useless.
Hiakrimei ran, she could not see them clearly. Only flickers of Chakara when they broke their barriers. For once in her life, the girl knew fear. Never had the almighty Byakugan, particular hers, ever failed her. It has always worked. She could always see. To suddenly encounter these ninja terrified her, she was no longer a prodigy ninja, she was just an 8 year old girl trying to escape certain death.
Tears formed at the corner of her eyes, but she would not let them fall. No matter, she was a Hyuga, she would not succumb. Her thoughts were cut off when a masked ninja suddenly appeared before her. Instantly, her byakugan picked up on his movement. As he reached to grab her, he seemed slow as her intense eyes read and foresaw the path of his chakara. She ducked beneath his grasp and swiftly spun on her heel.
“Chakra deflection burst!” the man’s eyes widened in surprise as his was hand was forcefully repelled, her eyes flashed. She took his brief moment of surprise to counter attack, flickering to the side and thrusting her palm twice into the side of his head.
“DOUBLE JYUUKEN!” And he was done. She quickly hopped past his falling body and continued running, her eyes widened as yet two more appeared and she got into a defensive stance. If she could see them, she could fight them. One charged her. Again, he was slow. As his arm neared, her attention snapped behind her as she turned to intercept the incoming dart. But three more came from the side. She cursed, as the darts hit her, she was too slow and before she had the chance to contemplate anything more, she was knocked out.
Hikarimei was kept unconscious even after the assassins had returned to the cloud village. The ones who returned alive were bound to receive rewards and praise of the highest order. They had successfully managed to kidnap a Hyuga child, and not any child, one from the main branch. What was to be done with her was up to the Kage. For now, the assassins would celebrate their victory.
7 years later, a slender beauty stood in the darkness in one of the hidden rooms used by the assassins. The bright eyed, Hyuga girl no longer existed. The girl poised in the dark, blocking and evading hidden attacks was now Himitsu Yuki, daughter of Himitsu seiji- a veteran of the cloud’s covert ninja.
She was now different. All that she had once known had been altered. The cloud managed to manipulate her memories with seals. She was the daughter of Himitsu, the man who led the operation to capture her. The memories around her father and family, were replaced with him. The techniques of Hyuga were altered, masked so they were almost unrecognizable to others but herself. And ever since she was brought here, bandages were wrapped around her eyes. The bandages would not burn, whither, cut or move. A permanent seal placed to mask her heritage.
To all who asked, she was born blind. The bandages hid her eyes. To all who asked how she could see? They were answered she could not. Instead, the girl had impeccable hearing that allowed her to intercept attacks and notice the faintest movements. When asked how she could do what she did, she answered it was through sound jutsu. Through pulses of sound that rippled in one’s body and affected their chakara. Kumogakure kage had formulated the perfect story. And hikarimei, no... Yuki, believed it without a fragment of doubt.
She was Himitsu Yuki, sound genin of Kumogakure and a ninja that sometimes disappeared on unnamed missions that require the use of her special eyes.

While this does not necessarily mean they aren’t equally skilled to those of the Side Branch, the Head family is raised and used to possessing the best tools and trainers when it comes to their clan techniques, or anything related to their bloodline limit. As a main-brancher of the Hyuuga and one that showed much promise at a young age, Yuki or by her old name, Hikarimei Hyuuga had been provided all the training and knowledge she needed to study all the variety of techniques available using the gentle fist. When her memory was modified after her kidnapping, her captors were careful to keep the knowledge and experience heightened allowing Yuki to recall the memories she needed to learn the clan's techniques. Upon her capture and after months modifying her the seal to keep Yuki's memories altered, Yuki was later "adopted" by Seiji Himitsu. The lie had allowed the covert ops to not only keep tabs on the girl, but also to have control over her. Seiji Himitsu's orders were clear, and his role was to provide intensive training and minimal rest for the young Hyuuga. They needed her to be the best she could be. Her agility and dexterity were trained everyday, as were her mannerism and grace. She was ordered to meditate and expand her chakra pool , foregoing any spare time to undergo intensive covert ops training regimes to expand her chakra and fortitude. Those that inherit the blood of this clan have almost featureless white eyes. Although it is not stated directly, it is assumed that all members of the Hyūga family possess the Byakugan. The Byakugan is the primary focus of the Hyūga's special arts. When the Byakugan is activated, their pupils become more distinct, and the veins near their temples bulge.
The first ability of the Byakugan gives the user a near 360º field of vision, except for one blind spot at the back of the neck above the third thoracic vertebra.
The second ability is having the ability to see through solid objects, and can use a degree of telescopic sight. The distance and the degree of telescopic sight varies from person to person. In Part I, Neji Hyūga was able to see an area of 50 meters, but later he increases his visual range to at least 800 meters, while Hinata Hyūga's range in Part II stretches at least as far as 10 km. During the hunt for either of the Uchiha brothers, Hinata was shown to be able to view Amaterasu's flames, and the chakra in the area, from ten kilometers away. However, the Byakugan cannot see through certain barriers(Barrier jutsus).
However, the third and one of the greatest uses of the Byakugan is the ability to see chakra, as well as the chakra circulation system inside another's body. It is from this particular ability that they are able to employ their ultimate attack style: Gentle Fist. Unlike the Strong Fist, which is focused on external injuries, the Gentle Fist style focuses on internal injuries. Each strike, when placed correctly, strikes along the Chakra Pathway System, which is the network of vessels that carry chakra. This network is closely intertwined with the functioning of the body's organs, and so, when the keirakukei take damage, the organs suffer as well. There is no defense against the Gentle Fist, since one cannot train one's internal organs to become stronger. The only possible defense is to stop the Gentle Fist's hits from connecting.
Particularly skilled users of the Byakugan, which appear only rarely, such as Neji Hyūga, can take the Gentle Fist style one step further. Along the keirakurei are 361 pinprick-sized nodes called Tenketsu, or chakra points. When struck, the Byakugan user can choose to either seal, or forcibly open these Tenketsu, thus giving the user complete control over their opponent's chakra system. So, with precision, all those points along the victim's body can be sealed, stopping the chakra flow to those areas. Able to strike without force, and yet do more damage to a ninja than some of the most powerful ninjutsu, the Gentle Fist is the greatest taijutsu style known in all of Konohagakure.
Yuki himitsu has adapted her training with the Byakugan to the next level. She’s been training relentlessly to control the flow of chakra and optimize the use of her eyes. The persistent training and her constant desire to make her ability to see a lasting effect, provided her with endless resilience in her training. Her eyes now took on far less strain from the effects of using her byakugan. All the while, her enhanced practice with chakra and her ability to channel it so effectively allowed her to apply this skill to other mediums whilst her byakugan is active, effectively minimizing the cost of other jutsu. The fine balance of the body's homeostasis and the difficulties that arise when the cycle's been disrupted were all things that were ingrained into her memory by her senseis. "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction," it was simple concept, but one that many took for granted under the unforgiving pressure that came with memorising so much. Instead of applying more jutsu, more chakra and more pressure- Yuki counters damage with precise and equal healing, amplified by her byakugan she's able to conserve chakra and optimise the recovery rate of her jutsu. Yuki's dedication to Iryojutsu and its execution has allowed her to gain an intrinsic understanding of the fundamental workings of the human body. Using the advantage given to her by her eyes, she is able to rapidly cast low to moderate rank iryojutsu and apply it to other known jutsu. Her keen understanding also allows her to promote her cells to generate and readily accept foreign chakra, amplifying her regeneration using the チャクラRYU無 - Chakura ryū no hōsha tebukuro. Deep within their archives and past along from generation to generation is a secret kept only between the family members, an oath sworn to keep the use and techniques behind these powers unknown from all those whom were not of the blood. Yuki, a stranger and foreigner to the house, soon earned her place amongst the family's prestige. She did not impress, she excelled and it was not because they were particularly fond of her, no. The reason she was introduced to the secret arts was because they had little else to teach her, her prowess and prodigy level understanding of chakra and the fundamental workings of jutsu made it so they had no choice but to introduce the young hyuuga to these techniques. It was decided that with her skills, introducing her to the art will bring forth something new, a different sort of power that would render her near unstoppable. Myths of vampires and demons are not so often brought to reality, but in this house the myths came just short of it. The himitsu secret arts were developed through puppeteer chakra string manipulation, it requires a delicate and precise understanding- that which came rarely to humans but commonly amongst the vampiric race of demons. With every induction, came a blood bound ritual, one where a drop of blood is injected into the target's heart. A series of convulsions soon followed and should they survive more blood will be injected until the target was rendered unconscious. Yuki, was one who survived the ritual, just short of having withstood all the demonic blood reserves available on hand. When she next awoke the world around her seemed completely different. Everything she sensed about chakra and health was amplified, heightened to an unbelievable extent. The knowledge amplified drastically whenever she accessed her byakugan. With her abilities, she could weave invisible, undetectable tendrils of chakra and cast them around her. Should she target an enemy whom is attacking her, she can use the strength of precision granted by her radiant byakugan to disrupt the balance of an incoming attack, weakening it. However, this ability was not only a defensive one. Through the sheer strength of manipulation granted to her by the vampiric blood and the naturally amplified eyes and gloves, she was able to take her attacks to an entirely different level. Using the weaved tendrils of chakra, she was able to capitalise on displaced enemy chakra and health, absorbing it into herself and using it as her own. In an age before jutsu and ancient bloodlines were formed, chakra was a yet an ambiguous and mysterious power. Among the few whom were only beginning to understand the latent abilities of one’s soul and strength of character were the monks that resided deep within the forests now known as the land of Kusagakure. It was said to be these mysterious nomadic monks whom were one of the first who tapped into the raw power of chakra. Legends tell tales and relics suggest that the monks were not the ones whom originally discovered these powers, not without guidance. Painted on ashen walls were images of a radiant dragon, as alive and majestic as nature itself. A creature that inspired awe within all whom witnessed its grace, and the monks were no exception. The creature seemed to be constantly surrounded by flickers of life and light as though a living manifestation of the very earth itself. After years of a silent and peaceful co-existence, came a fateful encounter that changed the regions and later, the world. War had spilled onto the sacred lands as the struggle for power and resources began to spread amongst different civilisations. Word of a mystic beast quickly spread and the speculation led them to believe they had discovered another tailed beast. In an endless struggle for power, the clans raced to capture and subjugate the tranquil beast. The docile dragon was soon cornered by armies of men seeking to control its power. Little did they know, the dragon itself possessed no power that could rival the tailed beasts. The majestic creature’s strengths were different- rather than sheer destructive power; it granted restoration and life. By attuning itself and those it chose to the power of the very earth itself, it grants immeasurable healing that mends the soul, mind as well body. And it is through this power that the nomadic monks later gathered the knowledge of chakra and its utility. The struggle to capture the dragon was relentless and in their haste and desperation, the armies left the dragon severely wounded. Crippled and badly injured, the dragon barely escaped the piercing siege weapons of the many that pursued it. In its exhaustion, it collapsed, its raspy breath reverberating gently in the air. Chance so had it that a young girl, orphaned and abandoned with the monks, stumbled upon the beautiful creature and urgently soothed the beast whilst she attempted to treat the injuries. However, she was unable to do much on her own. She needed help and the only ones who would do so… Were her guardians. Before long, the entirety of the temple. Old and young, man and woman, had all gathered around the majestic creature. Slowly and carefully, they created a harness which enabled them to move the beast. The monks had the sense to realise that treating the dragon out in the open left it vulnerable to discovery, and in its weakened state, it stood no chance. Hours went by as they assisted the dragon, finally stabilising its injuries. They had moved the majestic drake into a hollow cave within the bark of a giant tree, a place held sacred to the monks and one that was kept secret from all but the elders and wise of the monastery. The dragon's distraught breathing evened out in a few days and as it awoke it observed the humans. They were so different from the others. Nurturing, pure of mind and soul- these were humans who deserved to have their kindness repaid. And it is this moment that bestowed upon the monks the secret knowledge known only to the sentients of nature. The monks eagerly learnt as the dragon slowly recovered, guided by the dragon they began to channel chakra in its most basic form. Weeks turned to months and the dragon remained, bestowing the gift of knowledge on the monks, whilst they in turn gave reverence, love and company. These moments of peace and tranquillity would not last much longer. The invading armies infiltrated deeper within the forest and soon enough the monastery was found and its residence occupied and overrun. The monks were not bred warriors, but they practiced a form of martial arts that helped preserve the mind and body. Even with this training in its most basic form, when the monks applied the skills of chakra manipulation taught by the dragon, they managed to do devastating bodily damage. And so the monks' fierce struggle for freedom began. As time passed and the war raged on, the dragon's injuries had fully recovered, but the presence of the monks was steadily decreasing until it disappeared entirely. Even with their acquired knowledge, the monks stood no chance against the devastating weapons and siege machinery the foreigners possessed and were eventually enslaved or killed. Event still, the dragon waited patiently within the cave, years passed and still no one came and until there came a time came when it too had to depart, however not without one final act of kindness. As it prepared to leave, the dragon's body glowed and slowly it began to moult, peeling off its outermost scales. And using its powers, it moulded its scales, condensing and reshaping it into a pair of gloves. The gloves held a part of the dragon’s spirit, changing and reacting to the natural world around it. The majestic’s beast was connected to the item in a fashion that allowed it to channel basic thoughts and emotions. So long as the spirit and the dragon were alive, the gloves would never lose power nor shatter for its essence and source of power was life itself. Unbeknown to the dragon, this radiant gift, bestowed to repay kindness and show gratitude had never found by its intended recipients. Centuries past but none had discovered the cave, nor had anyone returned to it. Not until recently. A silver haired teenager had found herself drawn to the cave, as though being guided by an invisible tether. Yuki made her way into the cave, her radiant byakugan shimmering beneath the bandages at the sight before her. The cave was teeming with life. Animals, flowers and light itself seemed to concentrate around a pair of beautiful shimmering gloves. When she reached forward, the gloves pulsed and came to life! The vines wrapping around her arms and attaching themselves to her. Yuki’s eyes widened and fear coursed through her as she struggled to free herself of the glove, but as the feeling came, it seeped away. She experienced the oddest sensation, as though someone was calling out to her, calming her. It took her a moment to adjust but as she did, she felt an ever present warmth wash over her. Something was different, the world around her seemed more vibrant, and she was more aware that she was a part of it than ever before. She shut her eyes and let the warmth flood her veins, spreading the spirit through her and her skin seemed to gain a smooth and tantalising glow, imbuing her with nature’s natural beauty.

DESCRIPTION: The Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms technique is a maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a halved version of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, but seems to be no less effective. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through thirty-two chakra points of an opponent's Chakra Pathway System.
